Young People Desire Praise and Worship Music that is Non-Traditional

In the birth of contemporary Christian music and rock Christian music, young people have been inspired to attend youth praise and worship services, and there clear preference is to sing and to hear non-traditional  songs of praise.  One type of music popular with the younger Christian group is called praise break.  Ricky Dillard praise break is one of the Christian music concerts that started Don Moen’s, Steve Kuban’s, Hillsongs’, Vineyard’s, and Sonic Flood’s praise break.  Have you encountered Tye Tribbett’s praise break or the Hezekiah Walker praise break?  Praise break music is an avenue for Christians to gather together to sing joyous songs of praise to the Ever Living God.

In Christian belief and understanding, everything that a person does, if it is done for the glory of God, is worship.  Singing songs of praise, when Christians fellowship with other Christians in praise and worship, ushering the church members during worship services, cleaning the house for the Lord, and even breathing, if it done for the glory of God, is worship.

Some young people today have a different way of expression their emotions through praise and worship songs.  To many conservatives, rock and alternative music is not at all considered to be “a sweet aroma in the Lord’s throne” because it is noisy and disturbing.  Because of this, a lot of young people do not want to gather around the senior citizens in the church because they can not fully express themselves as they desire.  They are misjudged when they jump and dance for joy, when they cry, when they shout and exclaim their feelings.  Youth praise breaks of Sonic Flood, for example, offer an opportunity for a wonderful gathering of young people to sing exciting praise and worship lyrics.

Some older people and more conservative members frown about worshiping with drums, cymbals, and loud microphones—but don’t they remember that in the book of Psalms, David praised the Lord with all the lyres, drums, and cymbals (without the microphones, of course)?  On the other hand, the younger generation should not be critical of the style of worshiping that more conservative  Christians prefer, because they too are worshiping the Almighty Father in the manner they are comfortable with.

Famous Christian Bands Prevent Recording of their Performances

When some famous Christian artists like Jaci Velasquez, A1, and Paramore announced concerts and praise break 2009 events, some only wanted to see the famous artists instead of truly worshiping God through the music.   When they were in Singapore, the Hillsong United did not announce their visit until the start of the worship service to prevent this type of attention toward the singers instead of towards God.  Darlene Zchech led the worship – no cameras or camera phones were allowed that could distract the attendees from worshiping.  It was indeed commendable by the band to disallow its performance to be recorded, because it is not a concert for men -  it is a worship service to glorify the name of the Lord.

Every Christian artist should remember that to sing praises to God shouldn’t be similar to any other worldly concerts.  Because they’re praising the name of the Lord, it should be made clear to all who hear that the praise and worship chords and words are meant to magnify the Lord and not the person who produced the lyrics and who is singing the praises.
