Jesus pictures are everywhere. Not only are they on the walls of churches, but they are also everywhere on the Internet, religious magazines, candles and other advertisements that are trying to get more people to follow the way of the Lord. While these pictures have one common denominator, Jesus himself, they are all different in terms of what people think of them and use them for.
Why Pictures of Jesus help us Believe
For example, some advertising campaigns make use of the pictures of Jesus to get more people to visit a certain landmark, or a historical home, which is supposedly touched by Him, or one that He supposedly lived or was buried in. Other people, for example churchgoers, might use his photo to spread His Word around town at Christmas time and try to get more people to attend Sunday and Christmas services.
Are the Pictures Real?
The one type of photos that are rarely found, if at all, are real pictures of Jesus. Because it has been over 2,000 years since He was born. There are those who will try to pawn off a picture of Jesus as real to the naive, but in the end, of course, they turn out to be fakes. Of course, there were no cameras 2,000 years ago, so Jesus pictures and photographs from that time do not exist.
An exception may be the Shroud of Turin, which is a centuries old linen cloth with a three-dimensional image of a crucified man, many whom believe is that of Jesus of Nazareth. It is the single most studied artifact in human history, yet there is still a great debate on its authenticity. Kept at a Catholic church in Turin, Italy, many claim that the artifact is real, where an equal number would claim that it is an elaborate hoax.
Regardless of the truth, we know that we are not to worship any image, even an image of Jesus. While pictures of Jesus remind us of the sacrifice of the Son of God, we are never to worship pictures, statues, or any image. His wise quotes about love are to be studied and revered, but an Earthly image of Jesus to worship is a form of idolatry that is symbolic of the golden calf in the desert.
Jesus Pictures Free
Jesus pictures are usually free, though, and no one needs to pay for them. Most churches will give away free Jesus pictures on Christmas, Easter and any other time. This is because the Church believes that one day He will come and save us all from ourselves. The Churchgoers do not ask for money and if they do, it is in the form of a donation only.
Free pictures of Jesus Christ come in all shapes and sizes and can be a comforting reminder of God’s love for you. If you believe that one day Jesus will come back from the dead to save you, as the Bible so clearly states, then the picture of Jesus Christ you have bolsters your faith. However, if you have a picture of Jesus and believe that there is something magical in that picture, or in any artifact such as a cross, then you are mistaken, at least according to the beliefs of most mainstream believers, such as the First Baptist Church. What is magical, transcendental and amazing is the faith we have been granted to believe and understand that Jesus died as payment for our sins.
