General Categories of First Baptist Churches
There are many different types of first baptist churches. The First Freewill Baptist Church often differs from mainstream baptists in that there theology is Arminian in nature. That is, it is possible to commit apostasy or will fully reject one’s faith. The term, the First Missionary Baptist Church, originated in the early 1800s with the rise of modern mission movements. Some missionary congregations organized para-church institutions to help fund mission efforts, and this caused controversy and a rift as many mainstreatm baptists opposed such para-church institutions. The First African Baptist Church has several congregations throughout North America. It was officially started on May 20, 1175 and is the oldest black church in North America. The First Calvary Baptist Church is also a distinct offshoot of mainstream baptists with several congregations in the U.S.
